In addition to his work with the foundation, Terry is the Founder and Managing Member at Macanta Investments LLC, a private investment entity.
Prior to Macanta, Terry was a Co-Managing Member of Tinicum Capital Partners II LP from 2005 until 2012, when he became the Co-Managing Member of Tinicum LP. Prior to 2005, Terry was a partner at Goldman Sachs and a member of its investment committee; his 21-year career at Goldman Sachs culminated as the Chief Operating Officer of the Principal Investment Area.
Terry received a BS in Economics in 1980 from Villanova University, where he graduated summa cum laude, and an MBA in 1983 from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he was named the Henry Ford Scholar as the top student in his class. Terry maintains strong ties with his alma mater, serving on the Board of Trustees at Villanova from 2001 to 2012, including as the Board Chair and as Co-Chair of Villanova’s $750 million capital campaign that ended in 2019. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science by Villanova in 2017.
He is currently Chairman of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Vice Chair of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, and a member of the Board of Governors for the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. He was formerly a member of the Boards of the NJ Pandemic Relief Fund, U.S. Squash, The Pingry School, and the Dean’s Advisory Council and Chair of the GSB Trust at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Terry was appointed by Governor Philip Murphy as the New Jersey representative on the Board of the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum and served from 2018-2022.
Founded in 1993, The O’Toole Family Foundation is a national non-profit organization co-chaired by Terry and Polly O’Toole. Grants are made to non-profit organizations focusing on education, health, hunger and food scarcity, and building better communities through the arts, athletics, and media. Since its inception, the Foundation and its affiliates have made more than $25 million in grants to more than 200 non-profit organizations.
